J ust 2 ½ hours from Cape Town, off the scenic Route 62 in the farming village of Barrydale, you’ll find the quirky, relaxed and welcoming Barrydale Karoo hotel. Within easy reach of two famous hot water springs, the perfect pitstop on a road trip to Oudtshoorn and the Garden Route, a peaceful weekend bolthole from the city, or a fabulous, affordable exclusive-use party, conference or wedding venue. Come as a stranger; leave as a friend. Because the Cape’s funkiest country hotel still offers that most vital ingredient: warm, old-fashioned Karoo hospitality.
Life is too short not to get away on holiday as often as possible – a place where someone else makes your bed, cooks your breakfast, and pours your drink.
Ranked #1 in Barrydale! Thank you reviewers
‘The warmth of a wood fire greets you the moment you step in. This is echoed by the interior of the downstairs living area, stocked with ample coffee table books on art and travel. Oversized chairs and sofas invite you to relax and put your feet up. It is evident that a very creative hand touched this hotel. Interesting art, soft furnishings and mirrors meet you around every corner. Our room was spacious, with a private balcony overlooking the farm-like town of Barrydale, and an en-suite bathroom offering a shower only. Our king-size bed was fitted with crisp white linen and we could fix ourselves a proper cup of filter coffee in the room every morning – a much appreciated touch…’
We are delighted to announce that Clarke of the Karoo, the R62’s famous destination restaurant, has moved into the Klein Karoo’s most beloved funky country hotel. Aside from the many accolades garnered over the years, owner-chef Mike Clarke was honoured with a Special Achievement Award at the 2012 CXPRESS Garden Route Culinary Awards.
